My use of microsoft word as a student has been limited. While I do use it often, it is generally for simply composing word documents. Occasionally, i'll use the table function, but that's pretty much it. Teachers will often use MS word to type up their syllabi or to create rubrics for assignments. They will create nifty handout's too.
In chapter 9, there are great points made to the extent that ms word can be used.  As a teacher, I think it would be a great idea to create a monthly newsletter for my students to keep them on track. With all the great tools in Ms Word, like borders or shapes, making seemingly complex documents like that should be a cinch.
I will definitly use all the new tools I learned that I never knew before. All the applications of Ms. word, how to make a news paper, text box, shapes, tests, will be great in organizing lesson plans or handouts for my lovely students.
